The Profound Procedure (non-surgical)
The Profound Procedure is an energy-based facial treatment designed to trigger the production of collagen, elastin, and other vital building blocks for healthy, younger-looking skin. This revolutionary 45-minute procedure combines radiofrequency (RF) heating with micro-needling to deliver controlled energy to precise points for superior results.
Profound was developed by Syneron-Candela for the purpose of tightening and toning skin without the need for dermal fillers and Botox. Profound helps address aging issues associated with the breakdown of collagen and elastin, both of which start to diminish around the mid-20s. Profound is a highly safe and effective procedure that can dramatically improve aging skin.
How Does Profound Work?
Profound unlocks the secret to building new collagen and elastin – neocollagenesis (neo + collagen + synthesis). When the dermis is heated to 149°F, it triggers the neocollagenesis phenomenon, in which collagen and elastin levels start to build up again. The process takes about six months to complete and can dramatically improve the appearance of sagging skin. Results can last for a long time, with clinical studies showing 95% skin laxity improvement after treatment.
Where Can Profound Be Used?
The Profound Procedure is typically used on the facial region, particularly around the jawline.
How Long Does the Profound Treatment Take?
The Profound procedure is surprisingly fast and efficient; each treatment takes about 45 minutes to perform. Before the procedure, topical numbing cream will be used to manage any discomfort. Small needles are used to pinpoint precisely where the radiofrequency energy will be applied.
Who Is Profound Right For?
The Profound Procedure is right for patients who may have issues with skin laxity, including sagging skin around the jawline. The Profound Procedure can also address wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging.
Does the Profound Treatment Hurt?
The Profound Procedure is surprisingly tolerable. The first 15 minutes of the treatment are spent injecting the skin to be treated with lidocaine—numbing medicine. Once the facial and neck skin are numb, the treatment is more easily tolerated. The numbing can last for a few hours after the procedure. If patients are feeling any discomfort then, they are encouraged to use Tylenol or Advil products. For some patients, Dr. Rogers will consider administering additional pain medicine prior to the procedure.
When Are Results Typically Seen?
Patients can expect to see final results about six months after their initial Profound Procedure. However, skin laxity consistently improves throughout these months, meaning patients will see steady and consistent results.
Is There Downtime Associated With Profound?
There is minimal downtime associated with the Profound Procedure; patients can typically return to their normal routines immediately after their procedure. Some swelling and bruising may occur after the treatment. Some patients may experience slight tenderness at the injection site.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
Most patients will only need one Profound treatment; however, Dr. Rogers can work with you to determine how many Profound Procedures you’ll need to see ideal results.
